Families
The classic way perfumers sort what they make. Every fragrance here belongs to one.
- FreshCitrus peel, crushed herbs, sea air and cut grass. Bright at the start and quick to lift, the family most people reach for in summer.
- FloralBuilt around flowers: rose, jasmine, iris, tuberose. From a single dewy stem to a whole bouquet, sometimes powdery, sometimes heady.
- AmberResins, vanilla, labdanum and warm spice. Once called oriental: rich, enveloping and at its best in the cold.
- WoodyCedar, sandalwood, vetiver and oud. Dry or creamy, smoky or clean: the backbone of most modern perfume.
- FougèreLavender, oakmoss and coumarin, the barbershop accord from 1882. Still the shape of most men's fragrance.
- ChypreBergamot over oakmoss and patchouli. Elegant, a little bitter, and the structure behind many of the great classics.
- GourmandThings you could eat: vanilla, caramel, tonka, coffee, praline. Sweet, comforting and loud.
- LeatherTanned hide, birch tar, suede and smoke. Dry, animal and grown-up.
